As one reference point, The Maple Events’ event-budgeting guide suggests allocating 10–20% to entertainment and programming. This broad category includes performers, speakers and production such as sound and lighting.
That is a planning guideline, rather than a measured Australian Christmas-party average or a recommendation to allocate that amount to a DJ alone.
For a clearer perspective, consider an illustrative $30,000 total event budget, including entertainment:

Clear answers make it easier to compare value and avoid assumptions.
If the budget is tight, discuss your priorities openly. Adjusting performance hours or optional extras may help you find a suitable package while protecting the parts of the experience that matter most.
